In theaters Friday: 3:10 To Yuma, Shoot 'Em Up, The Brothers Solomon New on DVD: Georgia Rule, The Wind That Shakes the Barley
I can't wait to see 3:10 To Yuma this Friday. There hasn't really been a good western since Val Kilmer made every minute of Tombstone worth watching in 1993. Plus Russell Crowe and Christian Bale are the two most steadfast, dedicated actors today, and they completely immerse themselves in fantastic characters. When I played basketball in high school, I remember my coach always telling us to play hard and "leave it all on the court." Well these two actors work hard and leave it all on the screen. Check out Ain't It Cool News' new Q&A with Bale right here.
Here is the first peak at Hotel Chevalier, the 12-minute short film that acts as a prologue to Wes Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited. The short stars Jason Schwartzman and Natalie Portman (and her toothpick). And by the way, Reuters has the first advance review of The Darjeeling Limited from the Venice Film Festival, and I'm sad to report that it is a complete bash fest. It looks like the only thing critic Ray Bennett enjoyed was the soundtrack. D'oh! Oh well, at least Anderson told reporters this weekend that star Owen Wilson was on the mend and actually making friends and family laugh again.
Critics have been calling Jason Bourne the "American James Bond" for the last couple of years, and rightfully so. Although Bond has always had a lot more personality than the slightly robotic Bourne, but the tag sticks. For those who enjoyed the action in The Bourne Ultimatum, know this: Action director/coordinator Dan Bradley, who is about to wrap on Indiana Jones 4, has been hired as second unit director to assist the masterful Marc Forster on the next James Bond film.
Finally, here is the trailer for Curb Your Enthusiasm star Jeff Garlin's new film, I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With, in which he plays an out-of-work actor/schlub who falls for kooky Sarah Silverman. I spot Amy Sedaris in the trailer, too, and that can only be a good thing. The film is in limited release Wednesday, but hopefully good buzz will propel it to a wider roll-out in the coming weeks.
