Mira Sorvino got up at the crack this morning to announce the nominees for the 78th Academy Awards. This marked her first appearance on the face of the earth since about 1997. Here is the rundown of nominees. Id have to say Im pulling for Spielbergs Munich as Best Picture and Phillip Seymour Hoffmans role as Truman Capote for Best Actor. Munich is a tour de force that actually has something to say but doesnt go to extreme lengths to beat you over the head with its message. Its thrilling and entertaining and it asks you to think. And Ive never seen Hoffman turn in a poor performance. When a guy shows utter devotion to character in a movie like Patch Adams, you know youve got a real actor on your hands.
Always the Devils Advocate, NPR makes a case for those it thinks Oscar wrongfully negelected this year. Here
