I love sharing picture books with my girls to introduce different styles of art and artists, but picture books are no substitute for the real thing. Lucky for us, there are some great art exhibits coming to Baton Rouge and New Orleans that I cannot wait to visit with my family.
Everyone loves Blue Dog, right? We love the vivid colors and interesting techniques used by Rodrigue, especially in his children's book about colors explaining why Blue Dog is blue. "Rodrigue's Louisiana Cajuns, Blue Dogs and Beyond Katrina" exhibit will be at the New Orleans Museum of Art in the family-friendly City Park until June 8. For something even closer to home visit the LSU Museum of Art for a close-up viewing of some of Andy Warhol's paintings and more from the Guild Hall Museum in New York. This exhibit also runs through June 8.
And last, but definitely not least, the LASM is presenting "Jim Henson's Fantastic World," which teaches about his career and life full of creativity. The exhibit will display some of his original artwork, including puppets, TV/motion picture works, photography, sketches and more. I recently watched some of the old Muppet movies with my children and was so impressed at the creative, positive and G-rated humor. His creations truly are family entertainment at its best.
Enjoy bringing art to life with your family and supporting the great exhibits in our town.
