If your family is looking for some weekend fun next weekend, then look no further. On Saturday, March 8, BREC is hosting its annual Bunny Hop and Craft Fair at the Perkins Road Park, 7122 Perkins Rd. The event is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with scheduled Easter egg hunts and special events, including inflatables, pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting and of course a visit from the Easter Bunny. Click here for details and the schedule of events. Adults are admitted free of charge, but the cost for children is $2 per child. Let's hope we have nice spring weather!

On Sunday, March 9, the Louisiana Art and Science Museum is presenting a family event, "Hurricane Happening." Characters from America's Wetland Foundation will be on hand in friendly costumes to educate children on the impact of hurricanes on Louisiana wetlands. There also will be an obstacle course related to the black bear's habitat, math and science activities, an American Red Cross exhibit on hurricane preparedness and much more. The LASM will be showing its latest large-format film, Hurricane on the Bayou, which takes the audience back to the time of Hurricane Katrina and beyond, exploring the impact on the wetlands and the city of New Orleans. I am looking forward to this event because Hurricane Katrina occurred when my children were very young, and to them is seems like a historical event. This exhibit and film will remind us all of the continuing need for preservation and rebuilding in Louisiana.
