April 1, 2008

I cannot say which season is my favorite, but I can tell you that I am always ready for a change in the weather after the cool winter months. These past few weeks of spring temperature and sunny skies seem picture perfect. As we all know in South Louisiana these days are numbered and soon we will be sweating it out by the pool, so it is time to pack the picnic basket and enjoy the nice spring days. This is the time of the year that we, like so many other families, hit the BREC parks, the Baton Rouge Zoo and the Global Wildlife Center. We also are planning to repeat our visit to the kite festival in Port Allen and for the first time check out the Sidewalk Chalk Art Competition and Festival at LSU.
The Kite Fest Louisiane 2008 starts at 9 a.m. April 5 at the West Baton Rouge Soccer Complex in Port Allen. We like this event because it is simple family fun with a children's kite-making center, kite-flying demonstrations, a candy drop, inflatables for jumping and face painting. There will be a special night flight at 7 p.m. For details, click here.
I am really excited about the LSU Sidewalk Chalk Art Festival, which is in its third successful year. On April 13 from 9 a.m. to noon, participants will create their masterpieces on a section of the sidewalk around the LSU Parade Ground. Then from noon to 3 p.m., the public can view the art and the creations will be judged. The organizers are expecting more than 40 participants and have scheduled a rain date for Sunday, April 20.
Enjoy your spring days!
