Families on the Geaux

Come and celebrate the Swamp

A few weeks ago the girls and I took the afternoon off and enjoyed the views at Bluebonnet Swamp. We were surprised and delighted at what we found…honey bees, snakes as long as me (not to worry, they were in cages), a beautiful shaded walking path, more caterpillars and dragonflies than we could count, and some painters and photographers capturing the amazing views. The walking path is completely shaded, which makes spring time the perfect season for visiting the swamp, and Saturday, May 19th, there is an additional reason to visit. The Bluebonnet Swamp is celebrating its 10th year of educating the Baton Rouge area about all things swampy. They are throwing a party and we are all invited! The Swamp Stomp anniversary party is free and will include music, dancing, cake, ice cream, treats, and of course lots of hands-on art and activities.

If you can’t make it for the party, check out the BREC website here to find out about more special events and the hours of operation for the swamp. They host camps, special nature walks for bird lovers and even an annual dog day…something to interest every family. I hope to see you at the swamp!
