I have been on the receiving and giving end of Mother’s Day for many years now, and two things I know for sure: simple is best, and handmade treasures from young ones are priceless. I will always treasure the stepping stone my children made for me, just as my parents still use the handmade leather book mark I made 25 years ago. However, if you are looking for some Mother’s Day entertainment as a way of celebrating your Mom, Baton Rouge has plenty of options for your family.
The Baton Rouge Symphony is hosting a Mother’s Day Lunch and Chamber Concert downtown at De La Ronde Hall on Sunday. Dining to the peaceful sounds of a string quartet is sure to delight any music-loving Mom. Tickets are $35 for adults and $20 for children and are available at www.brso.org. Also, you may want to check out the Russian Tea Room on Highland Road. This place is full of unique gifts and will be hosting tea on Mother’s Day. If you have young children and you know the idea of dining out will send Mom’s head spinning, then opt for her favorite take-out, or fire up the barbeque pit and grill out some fresh fish.
Of course, sometimes what Mom needs most is some time to rest. Don’t hesitate to give her a morning off! If your Mom is a plant lover, then you may want to send her out to the East Baton Rouge Master Gardener Association’s Annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale. It will be held on Saturday, May 12th from 8am – 2pm at the LSU Burden Center on Essen Lane. There will be children’s gardening activities on site if you want to make it a family affair.
However you decide to celebrate, I hope all the Moms in Baton Rouge have a day full of happiness and peace. Happy Mother’s Day!!
