Families on the Geaux

Cinco de Mayo Fun

May 1, 2007

With Cinco de Mayo falling on a weekend, and the end of the school year quickly approaching, most families have plenty to do. However, you may want to consider adjusting that calendar of yours to head downtown for the 30th annual Fest for All. Fest for All is a free festival along North Boulevard that keeps getting bigger and better each year. There will be music, street performers, a children’s village, art, and of course, some fabulous food and drink. It will be hot, but luckily the beautiful shade trees along the boulevard make the location perfect for this event. The fun begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and continues until 7:30 p.m. The party starts up again Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

While you are downtown try to catch the Boys & Girls Club Annual Duck Race. You may have seen the ducks for sale at local merchants around town, and there is still time to purchase one for your family. For a $5 contribution, you receive a numbered duck that will be entered into the race and a chance to win a Kia Optima. The ducks (usually in the thousands) will be dropped in the water at Laurel Street and Third, then race to Florida Street. So make plans to go and cheer on your duck for a good cause.
