Super summer savings

There are so many fun things to do and places to go during the summer, but with movies, camps, water parks, oh my! The family budget can really take a hit over the summer. I’m always on the lookout for a good deal, and I have a few ideas how families can do all the fun things they love in Baton Rouge this summer while saving a few bucks.

--Check your newspaper for coupons to your favorite family hang outs. My girls are especially good at spotting discounts to Celebration Station and Chuck E. Cheese.

--Citiplace 11 Cinema offers free G and PG movies every Tuesday and Wednesday at 10 a.m. this summer. Check the movie listings here. There are some really good selections, but seating is limited, so arrive early!

--Don’t forget the public library and the great programs offered this summer. Last week we saw Johnette Downing perform, and this week we have a magic show and Harvey Rabbit on the calendar—all free! As an added bonus, join the summer reading program and upon completion the children receive coupons for discounts and freebies all over town.

--If your family likes to dine out (or the cook wants a night off) start checking out “family night” savings, or special days when kids eat free at various local restaurants. At Piccadilly kid’s day is every Thursday and Saturday.

--The Mall of Louisiana offers free carousel rides on Mondays and the Bee Safe play area is free and great for little ones.

Of course, you can’t put a price on everything. Doing the things you love with the ones you love…that is a recipe for a successful summer and it is guaranteed to bring a good return on your investment! Enjoy your family.
