Last month when my family visited the Louisiana Arts and Science Museum it just wasn’t the same. Our favorite 2,300 year-old friend was missing! My girls always love walking upstairs and through the galleries to the ancient world of Egypt, and my husband loves to tell us how he visited the mummy when he was a young boy. The Egyptian exhibit has now reopened with a face lift, but more exciting to my family was the research performed on the mummy.
If you haven’t heard, local area hospitals and research facilities performed X-rays on the mummy and revealed some very interesting facts about the Egyptian we have been admiring for so many years. They discovered it is a male, probably with dark hair, and that he died around the age of 24 to 30. The reopening was a very family friendly event with knowledgeable people on hand to explain ancient Egypt life and customs to the children, answer our questions, and even write our names in hieroglyphics.
Also, the museum is currently showing a new large-format film, Mysteries of the Nile, which will give even more information about the secrets of Egyptian life. I have never been let down by any of the LASM’s family activities, so keep you eyes open for more exciting events and learning opportunities.
