In 2004, I returned to Baton Rouge after a three-year hiatus in Chicago. With all that Chicago had to offer, I felt a little culturally deprived upon coming back.
However, one of the early bright spots I experienced was attending an art show put on by Forum 35 in a space in the Fuqua building on Laurel Street (now The Wine Loft). I had a great time and felt that something good was brewing on the Baton Rouge cultural scene.
That was a small event that has morphed into the large scale Art Melt at The Shaw Center for the Arts. If you are in town this Friday night, I urge you to check it out and experience some the best Baton Rouge has to offer as it relates to arts, entertainment and socializing.
Unfortunately, I can’t attend Friday night’s Art Melt due to work obligations. Did you think I just sat at home and rambled about culture all day? But, I think that everyone with an interest in the visual arts should be a part of this eclectic event put on by the young leaders in Forum 35. Best of all, it’s FREE!! Everybody loves free.
Until next time…
