So books and art are two of my favorite things, and I've found a terrific way to support both. The Louisiana Art & Science Museum is hosting a book fair at Barnes & Noble in the Citiplace shopping center Aug. 11-18.
A percentage of every purchase you make with the special book fair voucher will go to LASM to help fund the museum's unique programs, exhibits and displays. To get your voucher click here or pick one up at LASM and get shopping. For total sales (pre-tax) up to $2,000 the museum gets 10%, between $2,000-$10,000 the museum gets 15% and for sales above $10,000 the museum gets a whopping 20%.
This is a great opportunity to get some new reads and help one of the coolest museums in the city. Plus, if you haven't been since the renovation to the Ancient Egypt Gallery, you have to check it out. The main attraction is the 2,300-year-old mummy, but the newly remodeled gallery also features an updated timeline, a world map and tons of ancient Greek, Roman and Egyptian artifacts.
If that's not your bag, the museum also features the Irene W. Pennington Planetarium and the ExxonMobil Space Theater showing large format films and sky shows. And, if it's art you're after, Enduring Visions: Landscapes by New Orleans Artists hangs through Sept. 16. The exhibit spotlights New Orleans artists through a selection of paintings and photographs celebrating Louisiana landscapes.
