The spring months are flying by. There are an abundance of activities around town, from Sole Search’s Sneaker Party, to the Animals In Art Exhibit at LSU Veterinary School, a hot African American Art Exhibit with cool rooftop jazz at the Shaw Center and a call for Art Melt entries.
Louisiana’s premiere sneaker boutiques PivotFoot in Baton Rouge and Politics of Lafayette, present Sole Search, a contest to discover the top custom sneaker design in central Louisiana. Designs are created with the sneaker as a blank canvas and participants will create a shoe inspired by a personally selected photograph. Sneakers will be judged on creativity, originality, cleanliness and use of color. Finalists will be featured April 28, at the Sole Search Sneaker Party. The grand-prize winner receives $300; second place $150; and third place $75. Interested? Contact Cody Duet at 985-677-1441 or codeyduet@redbullu.com.
Natalie Mault, curatorial assistant for the LSU Museum of Art at the Shaw Center, is juror and judge for the 20th annual international exhibition on Animals in Art that is about to get underway. The exhibit opens Saturday, March 24, with a reception at 5:30 p.m. at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. For more information contact Stephanie Lindsly at 225-578-9826 or at lindsly@vetmed.lsu.edu.
This is short notice, but mark your calendar for this Friday, March 23, for MOA Nights: Modern and Contemporary African American Art. It will be three floors of jazz-inspired visual and performing arts featuring live performances by Xero Skidmore and John Gray of The Michael Foster Project. There will also be refreshments and cash bar. Come and see what it’s all about. Be a MOAlite for a night. 7 p.m.–10 p.m. at the LSU Museum of Art.
