Jambalaya Shoppe to fully open new location next week

South Baton Rougeans who have been waiting for the return of The Jambalaya Shoppe will be happy to hear a new location will fully open next week in the Hammond Aire Plaza shopping center.

The new restaurant is across the street from The Jambalaya Shoppe’s Old Hammond Highway location, which was closed late last year due to a nearby fire in the Tara Place shopping center.

Jambalaya Shoppe owner Andy Fontenot says he’s wanted to move for some time, and patrons can expect more from this new Jambalaya Shoppe.

“We’ve got double the space and triple the parking,” he says. “We will have more variety on the menu and be able to stay open a little later.”

Fontenot says the new Jambalaya Shoppe is currently testing out a limited menu and is a planning a grand opening in the near future. Patrons can expect the business to operate Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

At the new location, Fontenot says he will piggyback off the ideas of the original Gonzales Jambalaya Shoppe, which has been open for more than 20 years and does three types of jambalaya every day.

“We’ll do pork and sausage, chicken and sausage and pasta jambalaya,” he says. “We’ll also have white beans and rice, red beans and rice, boudin and sausage dinners, chicken and seafood gumbo, hot lunch plates and other specials throughout the week. We’ll have more variety and simple prices.”

Jambalaya Kitchen, the new restaurant from the former Old Hammond Highway Jambalaya Shoppe franchise owners Chuck and Cynthia Lavigne, is located off Jefferson Highway (9844 Jefferson Hwy., Ste. 103) and is currently taking lunch catering orders for delivery in the Baton Rouge area.
