Tim Houk’s dating philosophy? “You know when you know,” he says.

Of course, chemistry and a sense of adventure are bonus points.

“The really good dates, you hit it off,” he says. “You can go to lunch and end up coming back from New Orleans at 6 a.m. the next morning.”

Outside of the late-night dating bonanzas, Houk maintains a regimented, structured work ethic. He has aspirations to grow his real estate business 25% annually. But he’s proactive in finding his joys during the downtime. This year, the 38-year-old wants to get out of the country a little more and spend time learning the guitar. He doesn’t mind taking his time with the dating scene, either.

“I know immediately if I’m attracted to them,” he says. “However, someone I’d consider dating, you have to get to know them a little while. Someone with a quick wit … that’s attractive.”

His best trait? “Spontaneity.”

Ideal date? “If you’re with the right person, you could be anywhere. As long as you’re enjoying their company, you can get lost in the moment … that’s the ideal date.”

Cologne—yes or no? “Absolutely. People remember a scent more than anything else.”

Biggest turn-off? “Close-mindedness. Someone who doesn’t want to explore. Someone who is unwilling to get out of the comfort zone.”
