The Baton Rouge Epicurean Society is ramping up for its big annual festival, Fête Rouge, a two-day celebration of the best in Baton Rouge's food and wine culture. The event begins with the sixth Grace “Mama” Marino Lifetime Achievement Award dinner Aug. 23 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, which honors wine expert Tullio Saffiotti. The evening features a seven-course dinner specially prepared and served by local chefs, with a selection of fine wines complementing each course, as well as live entertainment. The second event, the Food & Wine Fête, is Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. and features the Fête Rouge Chefs Competition, where local chefs will prepare their best dishes for the chance at winning a Gold Medal or Best in Show. This evening features live entertainment, a silent auction, more than 150 wines to taste from around the globe as well as the chance to taste all the delicacies prepared by local competing chefs. Bad Guys, Good Eats! Pop-Up Dinner at Restaurant IPO
Chef and 225 contributor Jay D. Ducote and Chef Chris Wadsworth hosted the Bad Guys, Good Eats! dinner at Restaurant IPO Wednesday night. The dinner was themed around famous movie villains, pairing cocktails and ales with plates of food resembling famous baddies like The Joker, Lord Voldemort, Hannibal Lector, and many others. The highlights of the night were the three middle courses—a black bean soup laced with blood sausage to signify Lord Voldemort, a brace of coneys on black eyed peas resembling Sauron, and lamb medallions atop a fava bean puree to pay homage to the famous favorite of Hannibal Lector.
