Two cents: 'Business Report' publisher makes endorsements for runoffs

Since early voting is taking place this week, I want to share my endorsements. As I have said before, the BESE races are critical to the future direction of education in our state, and we can't go backwards to the status quo that has failed our children for decades. That is why I have endorsed Chas Roemer in District 6 and Carolyn Hill in District 8. (Their opponents have long ties with the old system and the support of teacher unions and superintendents who want to protect jobs—not children.) In the race for coroner, I am voting for Dr. Beau Clark, an emergency room doctor who works with law enforcement and has new ideas for this office. In the House of Representatives, District 61, I believe Denise Marcelle will do the best job. There is only one constitutional amendment on the ballot. I will vote FOR this amendment, which would prohibit the state or local governments from adding any new taxes or fees in the sale or transfer of real estate. It would not affect current fees or taxes in place. Early voting continues through Saturday, and election day is Nov. 19. Send your comments to [email protected]. —Rolfe McCollister
