See the Baton Rouge-shot ‘The Maze Runner’

A cast of young actors headlines an adaptation of a best-seller that was filmed in the Capital City. The Maze Runner, which was filmed here and in Jackson, Louisiana, is based on the young adult novel by James Dashner about Thomas, a teen who is deposited into a maze with an entire community of boys. Like the rest of the group, Thomas’ memory is erased. As the film proceeds, the guys join together, trying to find their way out of the maze. Dylan O’Brien (MTV’s Teen Wolf) takes the lead role, and first-time director Wes Ball is behind the camera. While young adult adaptations are still popular thanks to The Hunger Games and this year’s Divergent, other recent films such as The Giver and Vampire Academy have had a hard time developing an audience. With a production budget of $30 million, 20th Century Fox thinks it has a hit and has already started work on a sequel. Pre-production has already begun in New Mexico. Rated PG-13.
