New to the cake ball scene: Cake Jewels

A Baker resident with two full-time jobs is making a name for herself with made-from-scratch cake balls. Molly Jarvis, a wedding coordinator who also holds down a job at a Baton Rouge law firm, started her own cake ball business, Cake Jewels, a month ago after a little pressure from family and friends.

Her cake balls were a hit at Alexander’s Highland Market’s August pop-up farmers market. Since then, the Cake Jewels have been flying off the shelves at the Baton Rouge grocery store.

“I’ve been selling out every week at Alexander’s,” she says. “I’ll go twice a week to restock my shelves.”

Though Cake Jewels might be new to Baton Rouge, Jarvis has spent more than three years making the treats. As cake balls’ popularity continues to rise, Jarvis’ tasty take is in demand.

“I think they’re fun and trendy, and people here want trendy,” she says. “You can always do something different with it. It’s more of a fashionable treat than someone eating a piece of cake. I try to be really creative with it and do a select few flavors at one time, that way I can focus on my flavors and ingredients.”

Her most popular flavors are red velvet and wedding cake, but she has also offered German chocolate, cookies and cream and chocolate-covered strawberry variations.

In the future, Jarvis says she’ll try to get in a few more stores, but she’s trying to pace herself—she’s already been booked to bring the cake balls to upcoming events such as Brew at the Zoo, the Old Governor’s Mansion Gala and many more.

“I didn’t expect to get this much business so fast,” she says, laughing. “There have been a lot of early mornings and long nights.”
