Red Stick Spice Company opens location inside Main Street Market

Patrons of the popular Red Stick Spice Company will have a second location to shop for hard-to-find spices, loose teas, high-end olive oils and aged vinegars. Beginning Saturday, the Jefferson Highway spice and condiment purveyor will set up shop inside the Main Street Market at Fifth and Main streets in downtown Baton Rouge. The public indoor market, built in 2002 and adjacent to the Galvez Parking Garage, holds six local eateries and a handful of vendors. On Saturdays, it also functions as a companion space to the outdoor Red Stick Farmers Market, hosting additional vendors whose products are better suited for indoors.

Caterer Anne Milneck bought the Red Stick Spice Company in 2012, which was created by entrepreneurs Gloria and Lee Easterwood a few years earlier. Milneck holds a culinary arts degree and has expanded the inventory of products while also blending many of the spices herself. She also holds cooking demonstrations and develops recipes for the Red Stick website that use her products.

“Baton Rouge’s downtown district is the right place to be right now,” says Milneck about the second store. “We’re excited about the business growth and are anxious to meet new friends from the neighborhoods in the area.”

Milneck adds that she likes the idea of being located with local farmers and food artisans at the Saturday market. The Red Stick Spice Company’s Main Street Market location will be open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m.-noon. —Maggie Heyn Richardson
