Tin Roof to release new seasonal next week

Tin Roof Beer will launch Turnrow next week. The new fall seasonal is a coriander ale that will be available on draft at select establishments and in cans at a few local grocery stores, Tin Roof co-founder William McGehee says.

McGehee calls the new beer Tin Roof’s “football seasonal.”

“In the fall here in Louisiana, it’s still hot, and this beer is nice and refreshing and has a crisp taste,” he says. “It’s perfect for tailgating.”

The beer’s name comes from the strip of uncropped land at the end of the row of crops. McGehee and co-founder Charles Caldwell says the name is a nod to their Mississippi roots.

The new beer isn’t the only development for Baton Rouge’s brewery. Earlier this week, Tin Roof was featured alongside Bayou Teche Brewery, NOLA Brewing Company and other Louisiana brewers in an episode of Esquire Network’s “Brew Dogs.” See a clip from the show. The episode will rerun Sunday at 6 p.m.

Tin Roof is also near completion on its tap room. McGehee is hoping the space will be ready by the end of September.

“This space will allow us to serve beer six-to-seven days a week out of our brewery,” he says. “We’ll have air conditioning and a retail outlet at the brewery. We’ll have windows so people can see how we brew beers while they drink, and we’ll have games like shuffleboard.”

The tap room expansion started at the end of June and has been going smoothly, he says. McGehee also says the tap room will feature specialty kegs of beer that will only be available at the brewery.

“The beauty of it is we’ll be able to experiment with all different types of stuff,” he says. “One week we might have a mango IPA. The next, we might have something totally different. Everybody here will have a say.”

Tin Roof is also enjoying an equipment overhaul. With a new brewhouse, which McGehee describes as a “brand new Cadillac,” the Capital City beer makers can now make batches more and more efficiently. Tin Roof also added a couple of new fermenters.
