LSU Football: What’s new

Tiger Stadium has two new LED screens, and now all three of the facility’s displays can operate independently. Fans will see additional LSU-specific animations and videos, more frequent clips, scores and updates from games around the country, and—get ready to yell at the refs—multiple angles on replays.

A ruffle of fans took to social media last fall with a noise complaint: too much canned music during games and not enough of the Tiger Band. The SEC eased its rules on piped-in music recently, giving Tiger Stadium the green light to pump up the jams.

Now, LSU fans could hear music played right up until the center is over the football.

“We’re not changing what the band is doing,” says Jason Suitt, the Athletics Department staffer in charge of fan experience. “But there are times the band does not traditionally play, like before a crucial third- or fourth-down play. We want to help hype up the crowd in those situations.”

But how does Suitt make these DJ decisions?

“It’s all about the flow of the game. Plus we’re trying to please the student section, other older fans and, at key times, the players. That balance is the hardest part of this job.”
