Straight outta Muscle Shoals – Check out Belle Adair this weekend at Mud Water

Thanks to the popular press this past year about Alabama Shakes and the resurgence of the gritty soulful artistic hotbed of Muscle Shoals, another Alabama band is poised to make its way onto the national scene.

Muscle Shoals’ own Belle Adair visits Mud & Water this Saturday ahead of the release of their debut LP The Brave and The Blue, which has already garnered favorable reviews.
Belle Adair, named after a sunken ship in a John Steinbeck novel, brings with them a beautifully hazy but shimmering brand of progressive American roots music, which induces a sort of underwater calmness, swaying listlessly between past and future sounds.

Lead singer and guitarist Matt Green’s breezy vocals and accessibly poetic lyrics will be immediately comforting to fans of Jeff Tweedy and Wilco, while the remaining four members are locked in a comfortable chemistry that brings to mind secret recipes that made bands like The Byrds and Dire Straits famous.

In short, this is not your average Southern revivalist bar band. I suspect they will not last long on the small venue circuit; so, come out to this show, and then tell your friends in a couple years that you knew them way back when.

The show will also include support from up-and-coming local quartet Minos The Saint, a local band you can read about here.

Saturday’s show starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $8.
