A ragtag group of superheroes takes over the silver screen this weekend. Marvel’s latest production is of the cult comic Guardians of the Galaxy, which tells the story of an American pilot named Peter Quill (Chris Pratt). After stealing an orb coveted by the villainous Ronan (Lee Pace), Quill is hunted and must form an alliance with other mercenaries such as the space queen Gamora (Zoe Saldana), the muscular Drax (Dave Bautista), a tree (voiced by Vin Diesel) and a raccoon named Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper). One can imagine how the comic failed to catch on. However, the film has an excellent cast as well as direction from James Gunn, who earned critical acclaim for films such as Slither and Super. Being that this isn’t a sequel, Guardians has been the most anticipated film of the summer. Early reviews suggest it’s a crowd-pleasing romp, too. Rated PG-13. View the trailer below.
