Rock-N-Sake – Lychee Fizz

My favorite hour of the day is happy hour. Luckily, just about everyone in Louisiana celebrates happy hour with as much fervor and spirit (definitely pun intended) as I do.

If you can look past the DJ who is spinning a mash-up of “Turn Down for What” and some random 90s Splack Pack song at 5 pm, then you should head to Rock-n-Sake for TGIT (Thank God It’s Tuesday) for $5 cocktails and select wines.

At the Bartender’s recommendation, I went with the Lychee Fizz. The drink consisted of Hana Lychee Sake, and elderflower liqueur on the rocks, topped with soda water. Fun fact: lychee is a subtropical tree fruit. I’m not too proud to admit I Googled that.

At first sip, all I could taste was Sake and soda water. These are a few of my (least) favorite things. After the initial sip shock had passed, I tasted the fruit in the Sake and some of the white grape flavors from the elderflower liqueur.

The drink suddenly took a turn for the best sparkling water I’d ever had. The cocktail was sweet but not so sweet that you couldn’t have more than one. You could have AT LEAST 5…ok, maybe 3. Eat some sushi, sober up.

If sparking water isn’t your thing, you can definitely go with a Skinny-Tini Bikini, it is bikini season after all, but all I want to do for the rest of the summer is lay by a pool and have someone filling my glass with this deliciously refreshing cocktail.
