Tank Proof, the brainchild of 24-year-old twins Torrence and Thurman Thomas—the duo performs as Ask The Thomas Brothers and were interviewed in our June “Rivals” issue—is a new campaign aimed at solving one of the city’s least talked about problems: the high percent of African American children who do not know how to swim.
“Whoever is willing to come, we’ll take them,” Thurman says. The brothers even welcomed a 24-year-old participant last year.
The brothers are selling T-shirts and taking donations to fund the program, held at Crawfish Aquatics, they hope will teach more than 100 underprivileged locals how to be safe and have fun in the water this summer. Last year, Tank Proof paid for lessons for 70 children and young adults. Sessions will be held July 7-17.
