Erin Sullivan – Outdoors specialist shares her very favorite things

Erin Sullivan is more in tune with nature than most of us. The Outdoor Programming Specialist for BREC is an all-around adventurer throughout the wilds of south Louisiana, and as the summer months call us to explore, 225 asked her to show us her most cherished items. It’s no surprise that many of them are memories of adventure.

Straw hat and basket. These are from a childhood trip to Mexico that I took with “Grandma Sullivan.”

Leaves. These are from my collection of found objects, things I’ve just collected from nature. I love that they are shaped like hearts.

Where the Sidewalk Ends. This is my all-time favorite book.

Quartz. This pocket-sized crystal is for channeling good energy throughout the day.

Mouse pin. This was given to me by “Grandma Moore.”

Photo of my mother. She was in her teens, and her smile is just infectious. I keep it in my jewelry box as a reminder of eternal love.

Rock necklace. I made this at a State Parks conference.

Magic carpet pendant. I found this many years ago and have treasured it ever since.

Rhinoceros beetle dressed as a wizard. A dear friend gave this to me years ago, and I added it to my insect collection.

Rock core sample. I was given this as a young naturalist at the first conference of my career more than 12 years ago.

Chunk of citrine. This is a very powerful stone that carries the power of the sun and promotes creativity.

Unicycle. A mode of transportation in my youth, because I’ve always loved things that are silly and unusual.
