Hello 225: Meet Karen Miller – Local communications professional dishes on “power thoughts,” sno-balls and working for Jay Dardenne

Age: 26
Profession: Communications and PR Professional
Website: About.me/karenmiller

Your theme song: “Don’t Worry Be Happy” by Bobby McFerrin.

Most thought-provoking read: Power Thoughts by Joyce Meyer. This book reminds you to live intentionally and teaches how to become more focused. To change your habits, you must first change your thoughts.

Favorite blog: Definitely cupcakesandcashmere.com. I am addicted to fashion, beauty and lifestyle blogs, and this is my favorite. I especially love the blogger.

Best place to meet up with friends: We always enjoy going to Rotolo’s Pizzeria before an event, movie or some shopping. Whether it is pizza, calzones or the Chalmette cheese sticks, the food is always delicious, plus they have gelato for dessert.

Who inspires you the most: My sister, an OR nurse who inspires me to be a better person. She’s the most loving, kind, giving person you’ll ever meet.

The best dish you can cook yourself: Lasagna. My mother’s recipe.

Coffee order: A good cappuccino can turn your whole day around! During the colder months, a steamed chocolate from Latte e Miele is perfection.

Ice cream flavor: It’s Louisiana, so I’ll take sno-balls over ice cream anytime! My favorite is clear bubblegum with condensed milk.

Ideal lunch date: Good conversation over chips and salsa on an outdoor patio with fro-yo for dessert.

Best meal from the past week: Broiled salmon served on a cedar plank from TJ Ribs.

What is always in your fridge: Leftover boudin, Diet Coke and strawberries.

Accomplishment you are most proud of: Right out of college, I was hired to work for Jay Dardenne at the Secretary of State’s office. I was the head graphic designer for 17 state museums, including the Old State Capitol.

Baton Rouge needs: Nordstrom, Panera Bread, Bloomingdale’s, and a Kate Spade outlet. In that order.
