Keep it casual – How to do Casual Friday right

It’s your first Friday at a new job. You stand in front of your closet, unsure if that new tie is too formal or if your weekend threads are too casual. Are you dressing for comfort or style? Choppy and unpredictable can be the waters of any Casual Friday. Whether you work in a traditional business office, a creative work environment or in education, 225 has gathered a handful of Casual Friday veterans to inspire you.

Casual Friday with teachers Matthew Romaire and Leah Avellone.

For teachers, their favorite day, other than the last day of school, is Casual Friday. Male educators can swap khakis for clean denim and still look professional enough to shape young minds. Female teachers, layer denim with other textures like a tweed blazer or printed pants to add interest to your look without distracting students. A scarf is an easy accessory for the ladies and perfect for greeting children during carpool duty.

Avellone’s blouse, leggings and jewelry were provided by Merci Beaucoup. Prices and availability are subject to change.

Architects are an imaginative breed. Whether on the job site or giving a proposal, individual personality is key. Bright sneakers give a pop of bold color and are still functional when the hard hat is on. Sculptural heels are a great way to demonstrate design aesthetic to a new client, while the cool-girl-half-tuck is relaxing at the office.

Stuffed in a suit all week, attorneys take Casual Friday seriously. After hours in court or the office, the ties get left at home, and the jeans can come out to play. Suede ankle boots and a shrunken blazer keep the ladies appropriate for meetings and swanky enough for happy hour. Gentlemen can keep the blazer, but lose the tie and don dress shoes in a more gentle shade.
