My 15 Minutes: B.R. locals on their brushes with fame

Bright studio lights, flashing cameras, hot microphones. These few electric seconds mean the difference between an ordinary name and household one.

For each person who briefly steps in front of the world’s lenses, the story plays out a little differently. Some finally snag the record deal or magazine spread they’ve been dreaming of for years. Some turn their moment into an empire, with half a dozen REALITY SHOWS and personally branded lines of hair extensions or low-calorie margaritas. Some simply go back to their day jobs after a few months of press and YOUTUBE HITS, carrying around a name that still catches attention.

To the Baton Rouge community many of these people have been sorority sisters and coworkers. We’ve watched them on primetime broadcasts, looking for love or stitching together a design, singing for their lives or sweating over a TV stove. And now these ambitious creators and personalities are living post-spotlight lives, built on lessons learned from their flirtations with fame. While this part of their journeys may not make it on television, they are doing just fine.
