Unleashed: Four shelters celebrate Regional Pet Adoption Day

Companion Animal Alliance (CAA) joins the Louisiana SPCA, Plaquemine Animal Welfare Society and Jefferson SPCA in the Louisiana Mega Match-a-thon adoption event Saturday.

Each of the four regional shelters offers a reduced adoption fee of $25, which includes the cost of spaying-neutering, vaccinations, a collar and a nametag.

“This event is the largest of its kind in Louisiana, and CAA is excited to take part,” CAA Executive Director Beth Brewster says. “With more than 400 animals available for adoption, we encourage everyone to come out and find a perfect pet.”

In Baton Rouge, adoptable cats and kittens will be available 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Acadian Village Petco (3535 Perkins Road). In addition, adoptable dogs, puppies, kittens will also be available 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at CAA’s shelter at 2680 Progress Road.

For more information, visit caabr.org or call 774-7701, ext. 119.

Animals available for a reduced adoption fee this Saturday include:

Captain (#49763) appears to be a five-year-old, large, male, purebred German Shepherd dog. While this 70-pound guy looks regal and handsome, he’s a great big baby at heart. When he needs reassurance, he’ll put his great big head in the lap of his favorite person and snuggle. He’s been good with other dogs and even cats in the shelter. In fact, he was so calm and friendly, several cats came flocking to him, recognizing him as a friend as he wagged his tail in greeting. Captain would love to have a person committed to positive obedience training, who can build his self-esteem and bring out the noble shepherd in him.

Journey (foster care) is a female, Bombay mix with beautiful glowing green eyes.

Brie (foster care) is a six-week-old Cavachon (King Charles spaniel/bichon) mix. Like all puppies, she needs lots of patience and love while she learns her manners. She is at her foster mom’s house with her sisters, brother and mom waiting for her forever home. She will probably grow to weigh 25-30 pounds. She has been well socialized and loves children and everyone else she meets.

Ollie (foster care) is a young, adult male orange tabby.

Barkley (#48699) is a beautiful adult male boxer/lab mix.

Tierra (foster care) is named for the Spanish word (loosely translated to mean) Earth because she is the ultimate mother. Tierra was among many cats that were wandering around a neighborhood. When she had a litter of six kittens, the feral cat caregiver brought her to the shelter. This four-year-old loves everyone and her maternal nature extends beyond her kittens to the adults and kids around her. Tierra is an affectionate girl who just wants to feel the presence of her family around her. She does not need the constant attention a kitten does, but she would enjoy it anyway. Because of her gentle nature, she would do well with children. Tierra is currently in a home with cats and dogs whom she loves to boss around. As long as this girl is able to run the place, she is extremely content.

All these pets have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Many other adoptable dogs are available through Companion Animal Alliance. For more information, click here.
