Update: Anthony’s Italian Deli plans move in early 2015

In the midst of a busy Tuesday lunch service, Marco Saia of Anthony’s Italian Deli gave 225 Dine an update on the Baton Rouge staple’s move from Florida Boulevard to Mid City. Though an exact date has not been set for the opening of Anthony’s Italian Deli on Government Street near Jefferson Highway, Saia says the earliest customers can expect the market and eatery to open is after the first of the year.

“It would be crazy to move any time before that,” he says. “We’re getting into our busiest time of the year. We’re not going to rush into it.”

Saia says the food, menu and market items will stay the same at the new location. However, the Capital City family business will have triple the space to operate—around 1,500 square feet.

The decision to move to Mid City is something the family has been talking about for years, and Saia expects most of his customers will continue to do business with them.

“Around 95% [of our customers] have told me that no matter where we go, they will follow,” he says. “It’s about the way we treat them. We treat them like family because everybody who comes in here, they are the people who have been coming here for the past 30 years. They are my family.”
